Description

Job Purpose

The hiring organisation is seeking an experienced Engineering Specialist to support the planning, design, and delivery of fuel retail and storage infrastructure projects within the local market. The role provides technical engineering support across service stations and bulk fuel storage facilities, ensuring that all projects are delivered in full compliance with internal standards, technical specifications, and health, safety, and environmental requirements.

The post holder will work closely with engineering consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders to support the successful development, modification, and upgrade of fuel infrastructure assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with appointed engineering consultants to develop layout designs, detailed drawings, and engineering solutions for new and redeveloped service stations and bulk fuel storage facilities, covering civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
  • Provide technical guidance to consultants, contractors, and suppliers on engineering documentation and design matters to ensure alignment with established standards and specifications.
  • Prepare, maintain, and monitor project schedules and work deliverables, tracking planned versus actual progress across development projects.
  • Develop service orders and cost estimates for major mechanical, electrical, and civil works associated with the modification or upgrading of existing fuel retail sites.
  • Define scopes of work and prepare technical specifications and tender documentation for a range of infrastructure and development projects.
  • Review contractor tender submissions and technical documents to ensure compliance with organisational standards and approved specifications.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor construction and redevelopment activities, ensuring works are carried out safely, to specification, and in line with HSE requirements.
  • Prepare purchase orders and cost estimates for materials, equipment, and systems using internal procurement and asset management systems.
  • Participate in and support progress meetings with consultants and contractors, providing updates on project status and schedule performance in coordination with senior engineering colleagues.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in engineering design, construction, or redevelopment projects, preferably within fuel retailing, petroleum distribution, or bulk storage facilities.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory, commercial, operational, and technical considerations within fuel infrastructure projects.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current designs, materials, equipment, and technologies used in service stations and bulk fuel storage facilities.
  • Good analytical skills, strong computer literacy, and proven proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Sound knowledge of operational standards and health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Arabic, with the ability to prepare technical reports, presentations, and professional correspondence.
