Description

A rapidly growing international company operating in the utility‑scale energy storage sector is strengthening its project execution capability as it expands globally. The organisation designs and delivers large‑scale infrastructure projects that play a critical role in enabling the energy transition.

To support this growth, the company is seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to lead the commissioning and start‑up of industrial energy plants across multiple geographies.

Role Overview

The Commissioning Manager will take full ownership of planning, coordinating and executing commissioning activities for complex, industrial‑scale energy facilities. This is a highly operational, site‑focused role requiring strong technical capability, structured execution and confident leadership in challenging project environments.

The position is based from a European hub, with very frequent international travel during construction, commissioning and start‑up phases.

The successful candidate will ensure that plants are commissioned safely, tested thoroughly, validated against design intent and contractual requirements, and successfully handed over to clients or operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

Commissioning Strategy & Planning

  • Define the overall commissioning philosophy from early engineering phases.
  • Develop detailed commissioning plans, procedures and schedules aligned with project milestones.
  • Ensure commissioning requirements are embedded into engineering design and procurement activities.

Site Execution & Coordination

  • Lead on‑site commissioning activities during pre‑commissioning, cold and hot commissioning phases.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, equipment vendors and multidisciplinary site teams.
  • Oversee functional testing, system integration and start‑up activities.
  • Maintain strict adherence to health, safety and environmental standards.

Technical Oversight

  • Review and interpret technical documentation including P&IDs, control logic and system architectures.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues arising during start‑up.
  • Lead performance testing and verification against contractual performance guarantees.

Interface & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as a key interface between engineering, construction, project management and operations teams.
  • Support senior project leadership in resolving technical and execution challenges.
  • Interface directly with clients during testing, validation and handover phases.

Documentation & Handover

  • Ensure accurate recording of all commissioning activities.
  • Review and validate test results, reports and as‑built documentation.
  • Support structured handover to operations or client teams.

Candidate Profile

  • 8–12+ years’ experience commissioning industrial plants, power generation or complex infrastructure.
  • Strong EPC project background with hands‑on start‑up experience.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical and control systems integration.
  • Proven ability to lead site teams and manage subcontractors.
  • Engineering degree in a relevant discipline.
  • High resilience, ownership mindset and willingness to travel extensively.

What’s on Offer

  • Significant technical ownership on cutting‑edge energy infrastructure projects.
  • Exposure to international projects critical to the global energy transition.
  • Competitive senior‑level compensation, including performance‑based incentives, equity participation and site‑based allowances.
