Description
The hiring organisation is seeking a capable and motivated Solar Engineer to support the development and delivery of utility-scale solar photovoltaic and wider renewable energy projects. The role will involve contributing to electrical design, engineering, procurement support and project management activities across the project lifecycle, with a particular focus on solar PV systems.
Working with a high degree of technical responsibility and limited supervision, the Solar Engineer will be involved in the design and coordination of Solar PV Balance of System (BoS) electrical works. This includes both DC and AC collector systems, transmission interfaces, substations and grid interconnection engineering associated with large-scale renewable energy assets.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will analyse technical drawings, layouts, sketches and supporting data to assess system capacity and inform the selection of appropriate PV modules and inverters. They will undertake site survey visits, using relevant measuring tools and testing equipment to support accurate and compliant designs.
The role will involve preparing project descriptions, layouts and technical inputs for proposals, as well as developing detailed designs using specialist software such as PVsyst, Sunny Design and AutoCAD. Familiarity with additional tools including SketchUp, ETAP, Solar Pathfinder, PV Studio, Solar GIS or NREL SWERA will be advantageous.
The Solar Engineer will produce single line diagrams and Bills of Materials for the DC side of PV systems, determine suitable mounting solutions and review materials and equipment with consideration to cost, safety, performance and long-term effectiveness. Ongoing research into new technologies, standards and industry innovations will also form part of the role.
Collaboration is central to this position. The individual will coordinate with internal and external teams, contribute to team objectives, monitor progress and support the delivery of agreed outcomes. The role also requires the preparation of clear written reports and the presentation of technical information to stakeholders.
